Inveraray Concert
Inveraray & District Pipe Band have issued the following:
ASCENSION press release 06/12/2012 - Inveraray & District Pipe Band will take to the stage of the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Wednesday 14th August 2013 for their debut performance at the “Pre Worlds” concert, which is undoubtedly the most prestigious concert in the pipe band calendar. The concert is aptly named “ASCENSION” as the band has, in only eight short years, risen from the humble beginnings of a Tuesday night chanter class to one of the top Grade 1 pipe bands in the World. “We are delighted to be asked by the Glasgow Skye Association to do the 2013 Pre-Worlds Concert. This event has become a highlight of the pipe band calendar and we are honoured to follow in the footsteps of so many great bands.” (Stuart Liddell). Our main aim is to entertain the audience, ensuring that everyone has an enjoyable evening and goes home happy. (Stuart Liddell). Since their launch in 2005, Inveraray and District Pipe Band, led by Pipe Major Stuart Liddell and Leading Drummer Steven McWhirter, have experienced a rapid “ASCENSION” through the grades. In 2010 they joined the top flight of the pipe band world and are undoubtedly one of the most exciting bands to emerge on the grade 1 circuit in recent history. This concert, which is hosted and promoted by the Glasgow Skye Association Pipe Band, aims to offer something for everyone and will promote the huge musical talent within the band in what must be one of the great musical venues. Throughout the evening the band hope to provide the listener with an appreciation of a wide variety of music from all corners of the globe. The audience should expect to hear presentations of the traditional classics to some of the more contemporary arrangements and compositions by Pipe Sgt. Dougie Campbell, band member Alasdair Henderson and Australian composer (and new band member) Mark Saul. The audience can also look forward to an alternative presentation of what has become the band’s signature tune, “The Water is Wide”. The band have confirmed that they will be joined by a supporting cast of young folk musicians in the fore of the Scottish traditional music scene and some other very special guests. “We are working hard with our team of backing musicians to deliver an overall musical package which hopefully will appeal to all tastes.” (Stuart Liddell). L/D Steven McWhirter confirms that there will be a drum fanfare performance of “The Limerick Society” written by corp drummer and former leading drummer of Bagad Cap Caval Gus Sicard. “We hope to showcase the drum section of the band as a musical unit using a variety of Bass & Tenor effects along with our guest percussionist Dominique Molard, from Brittany, France.” (Steven McWhirter). The band continues to be a regular prize at the major events. The current incarnation of IDPB is less parochial than its 2005 roots- with current members from several continents. The membership features highly decorated individual performers; graduates of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland; an abundance of capable composers and arrangers, and several performers with a wider musical pedigree than purely piping or drumming. “We invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy a great mix of tunes, contemporary arrangements and traditional settings that will leave you wondering how so much has been achieved in such a short time.” (Stuart Liddell)
