CFC3 - Purely Piobaireachd

Price: £8.77 (£10.30 Including VAT at 17.5%)

This collection of recordings features some of the classic tunes in the ceol mor repertory played by College of Piping Principal Robert Wallace. The aim has been to try to capture the freshness of expression and subtlety of nuance necessary in good piobaireachd presentation. Most of the tracks, therefore, have been done 'live' or as first takes in the recording studio. The CD features the actual performance of 'The Battle of Waterloo' which won the Northern Meeting Clasp in 1999. All proceeds from this CD go towards the College of Piping Building Fund.

1. Earl of Seaforth's Salute, 2. Lament for Donald Duaghal MacKay, 3.MacDougall's Gathering, 4. Lament for Mary MacLeod, 5. Nameless, Hiharin Dro o Dro, 6. Park Piobaireachd No2, 7. Lament for Alan, My Son, 8. Nameless, Cherede Darievea, 9. The Battle of Waterloo.

CFC2 Chance was a Fine Thing - Robert Wallace

CFC2 Chance was a Fine Thing - Robert Wallace

Price: £5.25 (£6.17 Including VAT at 17.5%)

This ground breaking recording came out in 1983 and has been edited and re-issued to mark this 25th Anniversary. At the time very few, if any, solo piping albums were made from live recordings. 'Chance Was a Fine Thing' was recorded at a Scottish Pipers' Association club night in the Dorchester Hotel in Glasgow. The album name is taken from the fact that College Principal Robert Wallace learned piping purely by chance when his family moved to Whiteinch in Glasgow and he came under the tutelage of the 214th Boys Brigade pipe band. On this recording Robert Wallace plays RG Hardie drones and chanter.

The tunes are: 1. 6/8 Marches: MacDonald of the Isles / Kitty Lie Over, 2. Gaelic airs, 3. 2/4 March: Mrs John MacColl, 4. Ceol Mor: The Lament for Ronald MacDonald of Morar, 5. 2/4 Marches: Highland Wedding / Jeannie Carruthers, 6. Hornpipes: Crossing the Minch / Irish Washerwife, 7. Ceol Mor: My King Has Landed in Moidart (P/M W Gray setting, Ground only), 8. Hornpipe and Jig: Calum Campbell's Caprice / Abercairney Tom, 9. Breton Music: Maro Jef ar Penven / An Dro, 10. Hornpipes and Jigs: Barlinnie Highlander (2 parts), Paddy McGinty's Goat / Geese in the Bog / Stewart Chisholm's Walkabout, 11. Strathspeys and Reels: Nellie's Strathspey/ Highland Whisky / Mac an Irish / Barn Dance/ The Wig / Whistlebinkies Reel / Devonshire Terrace. Many of the tunes can be found in the Glasgow Collection of pipe music.
