PB26 Binneas is Boreraig Complete Collection
This second edition of the complete collection brings together all six of the original Binneas books first published separately from 1959. The tunes are based on the playing of Malcolm R Macpherson, grandson of Calum Piobair, whose traditional teaching roots stretch back to the MacCrimmons themselves. Using a revolutionary form of staff notation, the books' compiler Dr Roderick Ross, laid out the 112 tunes in such a way as to make interpretation far easier than from standard notation. The new compact volume is designed and edited by College Principal Robert Wallace and comes with a new introduction by him. The digital version of the book has audio files of 13 of the tunes embedded on the relevant page. This book is also available for iPad via the CoP app which can be downloaded from the iTunes App store.

This historical work by Dr Roderick Ross is now available at the very reasonable price of £3 from the College of Piping. First published 50 years ago, this book broke new ground in the publication of piobaireachd music. Subsequent volumes in the series were combined in the Binneas Complete Collection which is available above. But this book, containing 10 tunes, is the original first edition and has now become something of a collector's item. A limited number are now available thanks to a discovery made in the College storeroom. Tunes covered are MacLeod Controversy, MacLeod of Colbeck, Craigellachie, Menzies Salute, Lament for the Chilkdren, MacFarlane's Gathering, King's Taxes, MacLeod's Salute, Donald Duaghal MacKay and the Blind Pipers's Obstinacy.

PB27 Glenfiddich Collection of Ceol Mor

Published by the College of Piping, this excellent little compendium of modern pieces should be in every piobaireachd enthusiast's collection. The book was the result of a composing competition organised by the College in 1990 as part of the Glasgow City of Culture celebrations. It contains the five winning tunes and the six highly commended. They are 'A Welcome for Patrick Struan' by Capt. John Maclellan, 'Andrew MacNeill of Colonsay' by William Barrie, 'Lament for David Tate' by Ronald MacShannon, 'The Glasgow Piobaireachd' (the winning tune) by Sandy Forbes, 'The Tragedy of Lockerbie' by Willie Morrison, 'Salute to Reay MacKay' by Michaael Grey, 'In Praise of Kintyre' by Hugh MacCallum, 'Ancestral Voices' by Scott MacAulay, 'A Son's Lament for his Father' by Tom Speirs, the 'Lament for RU Brown' by James McIntosh and a 'Nameless' tune by John Goodenow, USA.
