Grade 8 Piping – £40
Be prepared to play four piob, six MSRs and four H&Js. Theory to cover ability to transpose from one time signature to another (e.g. arranging a 2/4 march as a 4/4 or a 6/8 or a strathspey as a reel or a jig etc more advanced knowledge of sound -understanding of the terms decibel, sound wave, frequency, harmonics, knowledge of the intervals in the pipe scale; piobaireachd construction and classification; ability to write a harmony line to a simple melody; playing with other musicians; history of piping in Scotland – the great pipers of the past, piping in the Army, pipe bands, the competition system. Those who pass this grade are entitled to wear the CoP Gold Badge (below).
