THE LEVEL ONE CERTIFICATE For the complete beginner who has memorised two tunes from Tutor 1, understands some basic theory and how to look after their practice chanter. As with all of these certificates, time taken to complete the syllabus will vary depending on the aptitude and diligence of the student. THE LEVEL TWO CERTIFICATE - PRACTICE CHANTER For the learner who has memorised five tunes from Tutor 1 and can play all of the basic movements. Theory and maintenance are a little more complex. Examination fee £10.00 Syllabus
THE LEVEL TWO CERTIFICATE - BAGPIPES The candidates will be expected to play on the bagpipe five different tunes from Tutor 1 and Tutor 3 including a strathspey and reel. Examination fee £10.00 Syllabus Top of Page
THE LEVEL THREE CERTIFICATE The candidates will need to know seven tunes, mostly four parted, including a march, strathspey and reel and a hornpipe and jig. All tunes can be found in Tutor 3. The ground and 1st variation of a piobaireachd will also be required and this can be found in Tutor 4. Examination fee £15.00 Syllabus Top of Page
THE LEVEL FOUR CERTIFICATE Candidates must submit two competition MSRs, two competition hornpipes and jigs, two four-parted 6/8 marches and a full piobaireachd including taorluath and crunluath variations. PIOBAIREACHD CERTIFICATE Candidates will hold the PDQB or Institute of Piping Level 4 Certificate and must submit four piobaireachd of different types. Performance is on the bagpipe. Examination fee: £50.00 Syllabus Top of Page
THE LEVEL FIVE CERTIFICATE Represents a high standard of knowledge and ability. The candidate will be expected to be able to play fluently in a professional manner and will be required to submit four tunes in each category. Examination fee £40.00 Syllabus Top of Page
THE LEVEL SIX CERTIFICATE Is intended for those who have reached a high peak of proficiency in the playing of the bagpipe and in their knowledge of everything connected with the art of piping. They must be able to play accurately with correct expression and produce an instrument of quality and of a professional standard. Six tunes in each category. PERFORMERS' CERTIFICATE This certificate is designed to ensure pipers who take on public engagements are of sufficient standard to satisfy the requirements of the engagements to an acceptable playing level. Examination fee £50.00 Syllabus Top of Page
