Scottish Pipers Results

Robert Gibb reports: The Scottish Pipers Association held their 85th Annual Professional Competition at the College of Piping, Glasgow, on Saturday 14th April. 2012 marks the 70th Anniversary of the battle of El Alamein, and also the sad death of Duncan MacIntyre as he led his comrades into action continuing to play his pipes as he was struck several times and eventually killed. The SPA were delighted to welcome his great niece Jackie Sheddan to present the prizes today, especially the Duncan McIntyre Trophy for 1st in the Strathspey and Reel. This was presented to the SPA by the Glasgow Transport Corporation in 1946 – Duncan having been a member of their pipe band – in honour of his heroic actions.
