Grade 1 Piping – £10
This grade is intended to ensure that a student is making a correct start, therefore any serious basic errors such as bent fingers, incorrect fingering of notes or persistent crossing noises will result in failure.
A student should reach this level after a term of evening class lessons or the equivalent in seasonal schools.
Play two tunes on practice chanter from memory from Tutor 1 (T1), or equivalent standard, and be prepared to play all basic scales and movements up to and including lesson seven in T1 (and the exercises on page 66 of T1) on the practice chanter and answer three music theory questions. Theory questions to cover the names of the notes and gracenotes and their place on the stave but not note values.
