Grade 4 Piping – £20
Be prepared to play on the pipes any ten tunes including one four-parted march, one two-parted strathspey and one two-parted reel from Tutor 1 (T1), or equivalent standard, and answer questions on theory and maintenance.

Theory questions to cover more advanced knowledge of note values and time signatures in simple and compound time, note value table, beat patterns, ability to write bars in any of the time signatures in T1, ability to write part of a tune from memory.

Maintenance to cover care of the bagpipe: care of the bag, checking and fixing leakage from around the stocks or joints, basic adjustment of chanter and drone reeds, watertraps and their use, types of valves, types of hemp and their use on different joints, essential items needed in a maintenance kit. Those who pass this grade are entitled to wear the CoP Bronze Badge (below).
